Crafting is the process of amalgam tools, items, and blocks in Minecraft. Players tin can arts and crafts past moving items from their inventory to a crafting grid, arranging them according to a recipe. A two×two crafting grid can be accessed from the player's inventory and a 3×3 grid can be accessed by using a crafting table. Items crafted in the ii×2 grid can also be crafted in the crafting table.

ii×ii Crafting filigree (inventory)

3×3 Crafting grid (crafting table)
Players in Creative[ Bedrock Edition only ], Survival or Adventure ever take access to the 2×2 crafting filigree from their inventory screen. Small crafting recipes that are at most two×ii can be made there. These include wooden planks, sticks, crafting tables, torches and some shapeless recipes. To arts and crafts items using a 3×3 grid, create a crafting table with 4 wooden planks, place information technology in the world, and press use while facing it. This brings upward an interface with a 3×3 crafting grid, which the player can use to craft any crafting recipe in the game. There is as well a recipe book where you can admission all the crafting recipes.
Some recipes practice not require their ingredients to be arranged in a specific mode on the crafting grid. These are commonly known equally shapeless recipes. For example, players tin craft a fermented spider center by placing its ingredients anywhere within the grid.[annotation i]
On the other hand, many recipes must have their ingredients placed in the right relative positions on the crafting grid. These are commonly known as shaped recipes. Ingredients in shaped recipes can be 'moved' up, down, left, or right. They can also exist flipped side-ways. For example, a 3×i recipe, such every bit staff of life, can exist made using the top, middle, or lesser row of the 3×3 filigree, simply information technology cannot be made using the two×2 grid considering information technology needs to be 3 items wide, and a bow may exist made with the strings placed on the left instead of on the right.
There are recipes that may not be moved or mirrored in this mode. These are commonly known equally fixed recipes. For example, a breast needs to have eight planks placed precisely on every square except the middle. Fixed recipes can exist added past data packs or mods.
Crafting, unlike other in-game deportment such equally smelting, brewing and enchanting, is completely silent.
- Notes:
- ↑ On this wiki, shapeless recipes are marked with a pair of intertwined arrows on the crafting table graphic. This symbol does not actually appear in the game.
